San José Municipal Water Retail Rates
Effective July 1, 2011
Residential Rates (non-residential rates below)
The San José Municipal Water System has an inclining tiered rate structure for residential customers. This means that the less water you use, the less you pay. The units used are hundreds of cubic feet (HCF). One HCF is equivalent to 748 gallons of water. All water bills include a quantity charge, and if you live in a higher elevation the additional cost of pumping is added. In addition, all water bills include a service charge and 5% utility tax.

Water System pay a flat rate for their water use. The units used are hundreds
of cubic feet (HCF). One HCF is equivalent to 748 gallons of water. All
water bills include a quantity charge, and if you live in a higher elevation
the additional cost of pumping is added. In addition, all water bills
include a service charge and 5% utility tax.

Meter Service Charge
All Municipal Water System customers pay a service charge based on the size of the meter. The following charges apply to all system customers, including recycled water customers (with the exception of "Former Well Users" who pay a flat $30 per month irrespective of the size of the meter).

Recycled Water Rates
All Municipal Water System recycled water customers pay a flat rate based
on their type of recycled water use in accordance with the following table.
The units used are hundreds of cubic feet (HCF). One HCF is equivalent
to 748 gallons of water. All recycled water bills include a quantity charge,
a service charge and a 5% utility tax. No additional charges are added
for pumping to higher zones.
