Water Quality

Washing handsWater from various locations in the distribution system is analyzed daily by certified Municipal Water System staff, and weekly by a private, state-certified laboratory. Additionally, the Santa Clara Valley Water District and San Francisco Public Utilities Commission perform their own water quality analysis of the source and treated water. All together, over 170 constituents are analyzed and tens of thousands of tests are performed each year to ensure the water you receive meets drinking water standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and California Department of Public Health. The Municipal Water System regularly publishes reports to make the results of these tests available to the public.
